Counselling

We carry our life story within us. Each person has a unique collection of joys and triumphs, pleasures and pain that imprints their biology. These imprints, formed unconsciously, influence our feeling states, our decision making, self-esteem, and the way we see the world. They shape the way our nervous systems respond and adapt to challenges and change. The imprints that hold the most charge are often formed in childhood or in response to trauma, and they have the ability to create mental, emotional, and physical imbalance—to create a state of disregulation.

However, we each possess the profound capacity for change.

Relational Somatic Psychotherapy (RSP) utilizes traditional talk therapy in combination with embodied practices to support transformative healing. Through a safe, attuned, and healthy relational context, the therapist serves to witness and guide the client in present-time awareness. By slowing down and beginning to track and observe sensation and feelings outside of interpretation, the client begins to disentangle themselves from self-defeating patterns and create new neural pathways and experiences. Essentially it allows the client to meet old wounds in a new, empowered way.

Drawing from trauma renegotiation work, attachment theory, and current neuroscience, RSP is designed to help regulate the nervous system, foster insight, and promote deep and lasting integration of the healing that takes place.

About Sara

Sara Turner believes in people’s innate capacity to heal. Drawn to this work through witnessing powerful transformation in herself and others, she meets clients with curiosity, patience, and kindness.

In addition to completing her training in Relational Somatic Psychotherapy and obtaining her registration as a therapeutic counsellor, Sara has studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hakomi therapy, mediation and conflict resolution, and criminal psychology. Her practice and approach are also informed by her time spent working with teenage girls in a trauma-informed group home, empathetically coming to understand more about developmental and complex trauma.

Adept at accepting and receiving people exactly where they’re at, Sara creates a therapeutic space that prioritizes her clients’ safety, comfort, and autonomy. An advocate for self-care, she finds her own solace in nature, through dancing, in humour, and cozied up with the creature comforts of home.

Sara is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC), through The Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). Registration # 2386.
